ABOUT US

OUR STORY

We fell in love with the people of Ciudadela Sucre —11 neighborhoods dotting the hills of the city of Soacha outside of Bogota, Colombia.

On our first trip, in 2013 as international volunteers with Habitat for Humanity Colombia. We improved the homes of three families and paved a steep road, strenuous work at an altitude of 9,000 feet.  Since then, we have helped 11 families secure an adequate place to live, constructed a cancha—a multi-purpose athletic facility, and built two other pocket parks with playgrounds.

In 2019, Habitat for Humanity International decided to close its Colombia office.  Desiring to continue working in Ciudadela Sucre, we formed our own non-profit—Building Trust Americas.  We have tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the US Internal Revenue Code.

In 2020 we planned to return to Colombia to construct a park, but the pandemic hit and we were asked to fund emergency food.  With the help of our incredible donors, we partnered with three local and international nonprofits to provide food and hygiene packets to hundreds of families.

In 2021 we partnered with Techo, an international non-profit known for providing emergency housing in Latin American countries, and San Benito Menni, a community center located in the heart of Ciudadela Sucre, which works to provide educational opportunities, food programs and medical help.  We constructed emergency housing with improved drinking water quality, and provided tuition and school supplies to young students.

Please continue to support our partnership with Ciudadela Sucre.

We will share the amazing stories and updates on projects as the community gives us the privilege of helping them improve their lives.
