2023 Cancha Project

2023 Cancha—a concrete athletic field/civic space

One of the biggest requests we receive for aid from the communities we work alongside is canchas—concrete athletic fields where youth play soccer and basketball, and which can also be used for civic events. For 2023-2024 we are once again partnering with Techo to construct a cancha in the same neighborhood where we constructed the stairway in 2022.

In November 2023, members of the BTA board joined alumni from the University of Notre Dame who live in Colombia, Techo staff and volunteers to start leveling the cancha field, using only wheelbarrows (carretillas) and shovels (palas).

We were thrilled one day when a young man, Maicol, who we met when he was only ten and we were working on his home, spent part of his 19 th birthday helping with the cancha. (Post photo of Maicol, Luisa, and Kathy). We will post more photos once the cancha is completed.
